Who we are?

Centre for Youth and Development leverages on the power of youth and technology to help children, youth and women living in deprivation to escape the cycle of poverty and fulfil their human potential.

We achieve this by implementing interventions across five Programme areas: Education, Health, WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene), Enterprise & Livelihoods and ICT for Development. We cooperate with key stakeholders across, Civil society, Government, private sector local leadership and communities to address the status quo by promoting innovation to bring about the lasting and sustainable change.

The mission of Centre for Youth and Development is to promote holistic development of children, youth and women by leveraging the power of ICT to expand access to education, health services and economic opportunity.

Our pathways for change

ICT for Development

The Overall goal for this pathway is to “promote innovative ICT solutions to foster social and economic development in the target areas”. We work to provide the poor and marginalized communities with increased access to ICTs as a route to improved service provision, education, health, and promoting wealth creation. Specifically, we implement the following priority interventions

Education

The Overall goal for this pathway “is to promote access to high quality education for disadvantaged children and young people in the targeted locations”. We target all levels of education in Malawi from Early childhood development through to tertiary education.

Water, Sanitation and hygiene.

We will focus on increasing equitable access to safe drinking water and sanitation to end open defecation. We will continue to focus on rural communities, while seeking to support underserved peri-urban or small-town communities and market centres with sanitation, safe water provision, hygiene messaging, and systems-based approaches. We will also support health facilities, schools, Community Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs), and community institutions to ensure the most in-need are reached. This includes ensuring WASH facilities are accessible to people with disabilities, and promoting safe menstrual hygiene facilities and practices for adolescent girls.

Healthier Lives

The Overall goal for this pathway is "A society where health is secured and sustained for children, youth and women in our target areas". We Implement an integrated approach to tackling underlying key causes of ill health, primarily focussing our attention on Maternal and Child mortality and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) including HIV/AIDS programmes, to increase the adoption of positive health behaviours and uptake of health products and services through innovative, sustainable direct support and broad-based behavioural change and communication initiatives.

Community Empowerment

The Overall goal for this pathway is to " secure sustainable entrepreneurial Opportunities, Employment, civic voice and rights for Youth and Women in our target areas.
